MYOU HOU RENGE KYOU NYORAI JYURYOU HOUGEN
THE WONDERFULLY-PROCLAIMED LOTUS SUTRA
THE VERSE IN PROCLAMATION OF THE BUDDHA (VI)
I- Bon Bu- Ten Dou
To lead the common man toward enlightenment,
Jissai Ni- Gon Metsu
Actually, although he possesses many imperfections,
I- Jyou Ken Ka- Ko-
Eternally, with the sight I hold,
Ni- Shou Kyou Ji- Shin
Shall I be the bridge man desires.
Hou Itsu Jyaku Go- Yoku
Even as man possesses the Five Loose Passions,
Da- O- Aku Dou Chyuu
I shall not allow him to fall within the evil paths.
Ka- Jyou Chi- Shu- Jyou
I shall forever lead all sentient beings along the Path.
Gyou Dou Fu- Gyou Dou
Realizing the guidance along the Path,
Zui O- Sho- Ka- Do-
So you shall obey the route.
I- Setsu Shu- Jyu- Hou
I preach various Dharmas,
Mai Ji- Sa- Ze- Nen
At all times, alone do I implement these Form-Meditations.
I~ka Nyou Shu~jyou
For whatever man holds within,
Toku Nyuu Mu~jyou Dou
Enters this, the Supreme Path,
Soku Jyou Jyu Busshin
(And) quickly realizes the accomplishment of the Buddha's Form.
The verses translated have been adapted from two Japanese volumes dealing with the Lotus Sutra; The Tendai Sutra Collection and The Teachings of the Lotus Sutra, both Japanese originals.
