Lotus Sutra Teachings and Translation
MYOU HOU RENGE KYOU NYORAI JYURYOU HOUGEN
THE WONDERFULLY-PROCLAIMED LOTUS SUTRA
THE VERSE IN PROCLAMATION OF THE BUDDHA (IV)
Ga- Jyou Do- Fu- Gi-
Though the Pure Land is torn asunder,
Ni- Shu- Ken Shou Jin
(and) all sentient beings burned (alive),
U- Fu- Sho- Ku- Nou
Anxiety, fear and the myriad agonies and sufferings
Nyo Ze- Shitsu Jyuu Man
I shall see that all is (Dharmically) fulfilled.
Ze- Sho- Zai Shu- Jyou
The various crimes and
I- Aku Gou In Nen
evil deeds of peoples' former lifetimes, these Karma deeds do I hold,
Ka- A- Sou Ki Kou
The Root Buddha, Knower of this past.
Fu- Mon San Pou Myou
Listen now to the names of the Three Treasures!
Sho- U- Shu- Ku- Doku
Master of various benevolent (powers),
Nyuu Wa- Shichi Jiki Sha
Those who may become gentle and tender,
Soku Kai Ken Ga- Shin
Shall see me manifest
Zai Shi- Ni- Seppou
And preach the Dharma here.
Waku Ji- I- Shi- Shu-
At some time, for the sake of all sentient beings,
Setsu Butsu Jyu- Mu- Ryou
The Buddha's essence shall manifest enormously.
Ku- Nai Ken Butsu Sha
Then, there will be those who can fathom this Buddha.
The verses translated have been adapted from two Japanese volumes dealing with the Lotus Sutra; The Tendai Sutra Collection and The Teachings of the Lotus Sutra, both Japanese originals.
