Morning Service
The Tendai Daily Morning Service is referred to properly properly as JINCHOU KAJU, or more commonly as “Asa no O-tsutome.” Based on both the priest’s TAISHUU KAJU practice booklet and the aforementioned Tendai Gongyo, the morning service centers on the shortest section of the HOKKE SENPOU. The GOGE (5 confessions) are the central practice, allowing lay practitioners to understand ancient Tendai principles. Slight variations exist between what priests and lay practitioners chant during the ritual.
(1) Sanrai (Triple Refuge)
(2) Sange Mon (Confessional)
(3) Kaikyou-Ge (Opening of the Sutra Recitation)
(4) Kanzeon Bosatsu Fumon Bonge (Lotus Sutra Chapter XXV)
(5) Sou Eko Mon (General Transferance of Merit))
(6) Shuuso Gogan Mon (Reverence unto Ancestral Teachers)
(7) Kuni no Takara (Recitation of the Treasure of a Nation Verse)
