Rev. Jion Prosser-Sensei

Fugen-Bosatsu

Jion translates as Compassionate (JI) Warmth (ON) and is a fully ordained priest of the Tendai Buddhist Sect, having resided in Japan for a decade.  He was formally ordained at the famous Sanjusangen-Do temple in Kyoto, Japan under the auspices of Archbishop Shinkai Sugahara.  In the Homan Ryu Tendai tradition, he has received the Ji part of his name (from" Jihi" or benevolence) from his Teacher and is named after the late Archbishop Jion Haba of the Tokyo Reisho-In Tendai Temple.

Kannon-Sama

He is a graduate of the complete 60-day Hieizan Gyo-In seminary course.  Although having relocated to California,  Jion is still an active participant in both the Japanese community and the Tendai Sect.  Besides working in his local community and raising his family, he currently is the translator/advisor for the Tendai Sect Newspaper published atop Mount Hiei, Japan, the Tendai Jiho as well as a contributing speaker on Japanese Buddhism to several local groups.  In addition, he has served as a Police Chaplain for a regional police force and is active in palliative and hospice care.  He is involved in the guidance of personal, lineage Tendai students here in the United States and abroad.

Miroku-Bosatsu

He is a personal lineage disciple of Rev. Jikai Choffy. Jion-Ajari is also connected with numerous teachers in Japan. His Buddhist Path started some 19 years ago, undertaking Soto Zen training. Some 3 years later, he was fortunate enough to enter the Tendai Buddhist Sect as a personal disciple and Dharma Heir of Reverend Dr. Jikai Clark Choffy of the Mitsugon-An Buddhist hermitage and has undertaken the study of Tendai Lotus Teachings since that time, having studied with a wealth of teachers throughout Japan.

He serves as the Chief Priest and Teacher of the Jion-ji temple in Redondo Beach, California.
